About Michael

Michael Janis is widely recognized for using glass as a narrative and figurative medium to address social history, identity, and collective memory. His work bridges studio glass and contemporary art, and his sculptures and public artworks have been exhibited and commissioned nationally.
Collectors increasingly look to artists whose work bridges material mastery and contemporary social narratives. Janis’s glass-based figurative works operate in this intersection.
Janis’ artwork is also in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, Florida’s Imagine Museum, Takoma Museum of Glass, The Museum of American Glass, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, as well the artwork collection at the US Bucharest Embassy. The DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities awarded him the 31st Annual Mayor’s Arts Award for “Excellence in the Arts”.
